A Sneak Peek and Prepping for Our First LookBook PhotoShoot!

It’s been a few weeks since I shared any updates on Curate’s progress…and it has been an exciting past couple weeks. Since the last post, all of the construction was completed, my inventory shipments started coming in, I made my first hire, and threw together a store sneak preview a week ago!

Last week, while at my first Hyde Park Business Owners Association meeting Tuesday evening, I was urged strongly to find a way to open my doors for the Hyde Park Shop, Sip’n Stroll two days later.
At that point, the construction was finished, butonly half the inventory had arrived…and it was all in boxes in the backroom.  Yet, I welcomed the challenge, and thanks to help from a couple of my cousins and fabulous new employee – we transformed the empty store you saw in the last post into a nearly full, beautiful boutique in just 36 hours!

Curate Boutique

The Sneak Preview event last Thursday was amazing – sipping bubbly and talking fashion with friends new and old.  Suddenly, everything felt real…and it felt amazing!
This week, the final inventory shipments have been trickling in, and I have been prepping for Curate’s first photoshoot.  I am collaborating with the talented and lovely Haley Vining to create a beautiful lookbook to showcase beautiful looks from each of our three style collections.  I will be uploading pictures to instagram tomorrow during the photoshoot, and I will share the final results here on the blog as soon as I can!

Curate Boutique’s Transformation

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing your vision become a reality.

It’s hard to believe that a month ago, the home of Curate Boutique looked like this:

And now, with the help of an amazing contractor and some graphing paper (with a lot of pencil erasures), the space looks like this:ImageImage

This space finally looks worthy to be the new Cincinnati home of exciting brands like: Moon, Zero Degrees Celsius, Liverpool Jeans, Line + Dot, Ravel, Adriana Papell, Comfy USA, Glam, Esley, and many more.

I can’t wait to get the merchandise one the racks!

A Note from Courtney (Founder, Owner of Curate Boutique)

Welcome to the blog!  Thank you so much for your support, curiosity, or whatever it was that brought you here to check out Curate’s blog.  I am so thrilled to be able to share this with you!

Since this is my first blog post, I feel it is apropos to provide some background information on Curate Boutique.

The History

You know those dreams you have about your future? The ones where money is no object so you can have any career you desire?  Several years ago, while discussing those “Lottery” or “Trust Fund” back up careers, I admitted that I wanted to own my own clothing store.

It took me a few years to realize that the reason it was my “if I were a rich girl” dream was because I wasn’t really confident enough to believe that I could be successful.  Thankfully, I have since changed my tune.  Rather than wait for good fortune to fall into my lap to start my dream life, I decided to take the plunge and make this “Dream Job” my “Reality Job.” This gutsy move was inspired by my father’s entrepreneurial spirit, supported by my amazing family, friends, and former employers, AND fueled by the confidence I acquired in my late twenties.

Curate Boutique is my first foray into the fashion world – the brick-and-mortar store will open in the Hyde Park Square shopping district of Cincinnati, OH in April 2013.  The online store will open in Quarter 3 of 2013.  And world domination will likely happen sometime shortly after that. 🙂

Why “Curate”?

Every woman deserves to feel beautiful and unique.  I love the idea of creating unique, hand selected style collections for shoppers to discover amazing pieces that will elevate their personal style, making them feel beautiful and unique.

The idea behind “Style Collections” was born because I wanted to house very different styles and aesthetics under one roof, but with some semblance of order.  These Style Collections will enable shoppers to know the story behind why each piece was chosen and how it fits within a broader trend, style.  Shoppers can pick and choose pieces from each collection or stick with the collection that best fits her unique sense of style. These highly curated collections will be refreshed seasonally to highlight evolving trends and styles.

Curate Boutique is meant to be a fun destination to play, discover, shop, and own unique, thoughtful styles from up and coming designers,  kind of like going over to your über trendy best friend’s house to search through her closet. (except everything is for sale here!)

When Can I See It?

I am so excited to share this dream with you –  the Grand Opening is Saturday, April 6th – let the countdown begin!  Check back in with me for updates and sneak peaks. 🙂
